Job description

The role

You’ll take charge of how IWS Online School looks and produce a large share of what the school publishes. The role holds responsibility for our visual identity as it develops in stages, from the colour palette and typography to the asset libraries and every piece of material our families and the public see, and it carries the authority to stop work that doesn’t meet the standard before it goes out.

You’ll report to and work alongside the Marketing and Operations leads. In your first months, Marketing will set the direction and bring you the campaigns and requests. As you come to know our families and our plans, we expect you to lead more of that work yourself, proposing the ideas and then delivering them.

Production is a large part of the job, and a lot of it runs to short deadlines. Teachers, students, administrative staff and our CEO send in raw footage, some filmed on a phone and some on a webcam. You’ll edit it into short-form video for Instagram Reels and TikTok, and into longer films with a calmer pace. Much of it needs to be published the same day or the next, because a school’s year runs on term dates and enrolment windows.

About IWS Online School

IWS Online School is a British online school for students aged 7 to 19. Founded in 2021, we teach the Cambridge curriculum through live lessons led by qualified teachers. The school is accredited by Cambridge International and COBIS.

Our families live in the UK, across Europe, in Türkiye and in Brazil. Nine in ten people who find us online do so on a phone, so everything you design and edit has to work on a phone screen first.

Responsibilities

  • Brand ownership. Develop and maintain the visual identity, including the palette, typography and styling, and act as its guardian across everything the school shows parents and the public.
  • Collateral. Design documents, presentations and digital brochures to the standard families expect from a school they’re choosing to pay for.
  • Video production. Turn raw footage from across the school into short-form video with pace and into polished long-form films, often within a day.
  • Advertising creative. Produce static and motion assets for our Meta and Google campaigns, built to earn back what they cost.
  • AI-assisted production. Use Claude Code, Claude Chat, ChatGPT and generative image and video tools every day, to work faster and to create B-roll that would otherwise cost too much to film.

Experience and skills

  • Evidence that you’ve owned a brand. We’ll ask to see the standards you set for it, and examples of work you turned down because it didn’t meet them.
  • A portfolio that covers both disciplines: structured brand and layout work, and quick-turnaround video editing. We need to see both.
  • Sound editorial judgement. You’ll know when a cut should move fast and when it should slow down, without needing to be told.
  • Daily working fluency with AI tools, including Claude Code, Claude Chat, ChatGPT and generative image and video tools.
  • Expert command of Premiere Pro and After Effects, and a strong working knowledge of Photoshop and your preferred vector and retouching software. We treat these as the baseline, and your portfolio will tell us more than the list.

Scope of the role

The role doesn’t include writing copy or scripts, and you won’t be asked to appear on camera.

What success looks like

In your first months, success means delivering what the team asks for, on time and to a high standard. After that, we’ll expect you to identify what the school needs before anyone asks, and to propose and deliver it yourself.

Terms

The fee is £1,300 to £1,500 a month (£15,600 to £18,000 a year), depending on experience. This is a contractor engagement, not employment: you’ll invoice us monthly, we pay in pounds sterling, and you’re responsible for your own tax and any registration required where you live. The role is full-time, with no direct reports. We welcome applications from anywhere in the world, from candidates who can work our hours.

Applications close on 17 October.
